History of Ziavi SHTS

Ziavi Senior High Technical School is located in the Ziavi Traditional Area, which is made up of four communities namely, Dzogbe, Lume, Bamefedoe and Adukofe. It is located 2.5km west from Ho, precisely from the Ola Senior High School. The community has its settlement at the foot of “Galenkuito” and is surrounded by beautiful vegetation and rich land thereby giving the diligent indigenes their main occupation as farming. Ziavi is noted for the production of the famous “Ziavitutui” (local coffee) and the Zigi dance.

Young, determined adults have to travel far for their secondary education over the years which made Togbe Kwaku Ayim (IV) the paramount chief of Ziavi traditional area conceive the idea of establishing a secondary school so that indigenes could attend at a lower cost. The other chiefs and people of Ziavi Traditional area had a buy-in for this as a project to be undertaken. To find a means of generating income to support the project, the Dututudoza (development festival) was started in 2001 for its commencement.

The different communities within the Ziavi Traditional area contributed generously towards the building of an eighteen-unit classroom block. The school was started in 2014 as a remedial course for four girls. From 2014 to 2021, the school was run as a community private school. The introduction of the Free Senior High School in 2017 resulted in enrollment decline as prospective students moved to public schools. The people of Ziavi advocated for the Ziavi community school to be absorbed into the public school system. In 2021, the government of Ghana officially absorbed the school into the public system after which the name of the school changed from Ziavi Community Senior High Technical School to Ziavi Senior High Technical School (ZISTECH).

Ziavi Traditional area is known as the “Green Valley City” due to the topography and vegetation of the area hence ZISTECH is nick-named “Green Valley University”. ZISTECH still struggles with a myriad of challenges including infrastructure, furniture, students’ enrolment, and staffing.
